Shannon Lake Dock Installed

DockThe disabled, youngsters and the elderly will find it much easier to fish now at Shannon Lake in West Kelowna.
Volunteers with the Peachland Sportsmen’s Association, the Freshwater Fisheries Society of B.C. and the Central Okanagan Regional District installed a floating dock in the neighbourhood lake May 28, where Go Fish events currently are run every weekend for youngsters to learn to fish.
The dock is a permanent structure, which will be enhanced later this year by a paved pathway from the parking lot on Shannon Lake Road to enable those in wheelchairs to access the dock as well, thanks to a $50,000 grant from the federal Enabling Accessibility Fund.
Installation of the dock was the culmination of efforts by a variety of Okanagan volunteers from various groups who first met to discuss the project in April, 2009.
