Hi all,
This will be a bit different than our previous work parties, (which have all been in warmer weather, and usually in sunshine) but we plan to take down some of the small dead pines in the lower reaches of the Bald Range grassland off Bear Main Forest Service Road to help reduce the risk of wildfire and open up the area for grasses.
We’ll begin at 9:00 a.m. Sat., Dec. 19th. It will involve chainsaw work for those who are certified to use chainsaws and are properly equipped; removing the material that’s been downed and removing small limbs with hand saws; piling debris for small fires; removing larger pieces from the site.
Be sure to dress warmly, but in layers and bring shovels, ( in case pathways need to be cleared to the area), small saws if possible (I’ll also bring some), good gloves and boots and water or coffee. We don’t plan to be more than a half-day or so.
Below is a map and instructions to reach the site.
Please let me know if you’re able to come, so I can bring enough treats!… and feel free to circulate this information to any others you feel may be interested in helping out.
